- Larry, an assistant stage manager of a new musical Me and Juliet, falls in love with Jeanie, a singer in the show's chorus. Threatening their happiness is Bob, a hot-tempered and physically powerful electrician, who also loves Jeanie. A contrasting romance, involving Mac, the show's stage manager, and Betty, the principal dancer, is complicated by Mac's longstanding vow to never fall for a girl in a show he's working on. Eventually, Bob learns of Jeannie's romance with Larry and, in a drunken rage, he tries to kill Larry. Breifly led to believe that he has succeeded, Bob is informed that not only is Larry alive but he and Jeanie got married earlier that day. Meanwhile, Mac learns that he is to be transferred to a new show being produced by the producer of Me and Juliet. In the final scene, with Larry as the new stage manager of Me and Juliet, Bob seems to assent to Larry's authority as his supervisor and all seems well. Interspersed with all of this are scenes from the fictional musical titled Me and Juliet.
