- IOLANTHE; or The Peer and the Peri. First performed at The Savoy Theatre, London, on 25 November 1882, conducted by Sullivan, and presented by Richard D'Oyly Carte. Initial run of 398 performances in London.
Gilbert and Sullivan's eighth operetta, written after PATIENCE and before PRINCESS IDA.
Two innovations of IOLANTHE were (1) is premiered simultaneously in London and New York on 25 November 1882; and (2) the fairies hair gleamed with light and this was the first time stage light was used a part of stage costume. - Premiere
