- According to Brecht this is an adaption of an old Japanese religious play, and all three authors described it as "an attempt to use a didactic piece to make familiar an attitude of positive intervention." Brecht and his estate have subsequently banned this piece from public performance (probably due to the fact that the communists didn't like it). It has been banned by several other governments, as well; for example, the F.B.I. condemned the play in the 1940s for promoting "Communist World Revolution by violent means."
