State Fair - 1962 Film Soundtrack

The 1962 STATE FAIR tracks on the Varèse Sarabande CD are not the same as on the Dot LP. From Nick Redman's CD liner notes: "The 1962 version, originally available on LP, has subsequently languished except for a couple of songs showing up on various compilations. The tracks on this CD however are not derived from the album master. Rather they are culled from the original multi-track recordings done at Fox in the fall of 1961 and some differences will be noted in the overall mix and presentation. ...this CD preserves what is largely left of the sessions...and they were rebuilt out to their film-length, which allows for extended introductions in some cases and "middles" in others. The vocals were also given a more natural treatment which means that the "drenching reverb" much favored on 60s albums is gone. Sadly, also gone is the company performance of "It's a Grand Night for Singing" which was hopelessly damaged. In its place in the form of bonus tracks are Pat Boone and Ann-Margret's isolated vocal tracks which lend a touching simplicity to their duet - and Bobby Darin and Anita Gordon's guide-track vocal of the same song. Additionally the performance of "Our State Fair" that accompanies the family's trip is down the drain along with the solo performances of the "Main Title". The title sequence on the CD is presented as an instrumental with the chorus portions added as colorful emphasis. .....Other differences include the addition of "Fair Dance", Alfred Newman's delightful jazz-variation of "It Might as Well Be Spring" and "Romance Medley", a wonderful cue that heart-rendingly combines "Willing and Eager" and "This Isn't Heaven".

If the masters for "It's a Grand Night for singing" were hoplessly damaged, why didn't they use the Dot Lp master?
