[1438 Lady, Be Good!]0- Notes
anAn independent song introduced in 1940 by Kate Smith on her radio program. It quickly became popular through recordings and night club performances. It was then interpolated in the 1941 film, LADY BE GOOD, and won the Academy Award. Jerome Kern objected to the award maintaining that it had not been written for the film and therefore should not have been eligible for the award; he proceeded to get the rules changed so that only songs written expressly for motion pictures would be eligible.- User id of record creator
