Plot
In the year 1521, in the peaceful village of Mactan, Lapu Lapu a brave chieftain of that island dreamt about certain conquerors from the sun. He dreamt that this conquerors will invade and change the lives of his people.

After a week or so, a group of strange men led by Ferdinand Magellan arrived at the shores of Mactan. Magellan and his men held a thanksgiving mass and planted a cross on the soil of Mactan, a sign that they arrived in good health.

In the middle of their thanksgiving mass, Lapu Lapu arrived at the scene, surprised, he saw men garbed in shining armors, carrying strange weapons. This confirmed his dream. Nevertheless, Lapu Lapu being a gentleman, welcomed the strangers.

That night there was a big celebration held in the honor of Magellan and his men. There were the customary exchange of gifts between the two people. The natives were impressed with the unusual gifts and weapons from the guests. The guests likewise, were also equally impressed with gifts presented to them by the villagers, but most of all they were impressed by the beauty of the womenfolk.

In the middle of the festivity, Magellan being half drunk serenaded Princess Diwata the wife of Lapu-Lapu. This led to an unpleasant reaction among the men of Mactan. Further aggravating the situation Padre Enrique who came with Magellan, ridiculed their beliefs, telling them to change their faith to Christianity. After his sermon, some of the natives seemingly convinced with priest’s explanation, approached the priest kissing his hands and feet, begging that they be converted to the Christian faith.

At this time Lapu Lapu who was angered by the ill manner and disrespect of his guests towards his people and his beliefs, stood up from his seat to defend his faith. In the middle of the heated argument between the priest and the chief, the Princess of Mactan stood from her seat to pacify the two men. Unfortunately a tragic accident occurred…..the Princess was accidentally shot by two of the villagers with an “escofeta- ( a rifle), as they were checking out the weapon on the side lines. This tragedy cut a very deep wound between the two leaders. Lapu Lapu left the room with a heavy heart carrying the dead body of the princess. His warriors and ministers followed him.

The next day Lapu Lapu told Magellan and his men to leave . He told them that due to the difference in their ways and faith, they will never be able to live side by side peacefully. He demanded that Magellan leave and forget their island, never to return, but Magellan and his men were adamant in staying.

The battle of Mactan began.
