According to Playbill.com, Memphis is the first musical to be filmed live and released in U.S. cinemas while concurrently running on Broadway. Captured by Emmy Award-winning director Don Roy King and sound producer Matt Kaplowitz, live performances at the Shubert Theatre were filmed January 18 – 21, 2011 and debuted in cinemas across the U.S. on April 28.
