Notes
This morning Chris Evans announced the winners of this year's 500 words short story competition. Tonight we look back on a momentous day with a gala concert celebrating the great children's storytellers.

In 2015 we celebrate two great literary anniversaries - 150 years ago Charles Lutwidge Dodgson - otherwise known as Lewis Carroll published Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. In that very same year another great storyteller was born in Bombay, India - his name was Rudyard Kipling.

The BBC Concert Orchestra conducted by Stephen Bell perform scores from the films, musicals and ballets inspired by a good bedtime read - including Peter Pan(J.M.Barrie); Warhorse(Michael Morpurgo); The Lord of the Rings(J.R.R. Tolkien); Thomas the Tank Engine(Reverend Wilbert Awdry); Shrek(William Steig); The Wombles(Elizabeth Beresford); Paddington Bear(Michael Bond); Harry Potter(J.K.Rowling) and To Kill a Mockingbird(Harper Lee).

Guests include cast members from Matilda and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Overtones and Caroline Sheen who has appeared on the West End stage as Truly Scrumptious in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang(Ian Fleming) and as Mary Poppins(P.L. Travers).

Our musical librarian for the evening is Blue Peter's Barney Harwood.

The concert was recorded at the Hackney Empire.
