The Best Little Whorehouse Goes Public - 1994 Original Broadway Cast

As the trumpets sound in the overture of this show, the bombing begins. And hell, this is one of the largest bomb ever on Broadway. The critics together panned the show to its morgue, for the show managed to fail in every aspect. Let's start with the uninteresting score with less-than-memorable songs, albeit the charming performances by Dee Hoty, Scott Holmes and the rest of the cast members. On the other hand, the thin book with illogical storyline and a nearly no subplots worsen the situation. Furthermore, the costly kitschy design (most notably lighting) made the last blow and the musical is then announced dead. Luckily, in a cast recording, we can be immune from the pain delivered by the book and the designs. There are still, a couple of songs which are noteworthy: "I'm Leavin' Texas" and "Call Me". This show also marked the start of the fall of the great choreographer/ director Tommy Tune.
