The show was an absolute blast in London. I saw it many, many times.

Before coming into the west end, it played at the Cambridge Theatre in Cambridge with Bob Hoiskins in the role of Mooney, When it transferred to the west end the role was played by David Healy.

It won SWET (Society of West End Theatre) Awards for Best Musical and for its leading man, Anton Rogers. These awards were later renamed the Oliviers.

I know it flopped big time on Broadway. Closing soon after its opening night and you are right it was called 'Mooney Shapiro's Songbook'.
