Pái Niáng Niáng (白孃孃) - 2006 Original Hong Kong Cast

Arguably the first musical in HK. The show is initiated by the original star Pan Di Hua, who also produced the show. She brought in the famous duo which made a splash in writing theme songs for TV dramas and pop music, and also a cast filled with stardom. The music in this show is remarkable for its music style, a unique one very popular in 60-70's of HK, as a combination of minor scale and pentatonic scale. The lyrics are mostly filled with running jokes at that time and the plainest words. For now, this sounded like some out-of-date mandarin old songs. Anyway, the show opened in 1972 and ran for more than 60 performances, which is a record in HK at that time. Still, the producer suffer a loss due to the large cost and the unpopularity of musicals in HK. Bruce Lee, the famous Kung-Fu star attened one of the performances and noted that "you cannot recoup, that's normal, you're ahead so much of your time". That, proved to be worldly true.
